Mosiah 15:7
Yea, even so he shall be led, crucified, and slain, the flesh becoming subject even unto death, the will of the Son being swallowed up in the will of the Father.
I think the word usage of "swallowed" is SO powerful. Christ didn't just submit His will to God, His will was "swallowed up in the will of the Father". There was no room for the desires of the "natural man".
In order to have our will swallowed up in the will of the Father, we need to understand and be familiar with His will.
Mosiah 5:13
For how knoweth a man the master whom he has not served, and who is a stranger unto him, and is far from the thoughts and intents of his heart?
Everything depends on the thoughts and intents of our hearts. Elder Neil A. Maxwell taught, "[Our desires] shape our thought patterns. Our desires thus precede our deeds and lie at the very cores of our souls, tilting us toward or away from God." Through scripture study, church/temple attendance, and living what we learn, God can help "educate our desires".
I have made a HUGE effort this week to have my will swallowed up by God's will. I have tried to think in the moment, both positive and negative situations, "What would Christ do?" "What does God want me to learn from this experience right now?" "How can I use what I have learned to help someone else?"
I am very far from perfect, but I have noticed SUCH A DIFFERENCE in the way I think and feel. I can feel the wires in my mind changing for the better. My happiness, patience, peace, and eternal perspective is more consistent. I feel the companionship of the Holy Ghost stronger. My prayers are more meaningful and faithful. Overall, I AM ENERGIZED AND GRATEFUL for the highs and lows.
I have never seen so many tender mercies than in the past two weeks of my life and I KNOW it is because God can see my efforts. How incredible that "we know that it is by grace that we are saved [AND BLESSED], after all we can do" (2 Nephi 25:23). Perfection is not expected, only constantly trying to submit our will to be swallowed in the will of the Father.
