Dos Pickett
The weeks are literally flying. How is this even possible?
Hermana Chavez left me (I love her with all my heart) and now is serving in the north of our mission, and my new companion is from... BRASILLLL.
Hermana Dos Santos and I are just thriving together. We are honestly confused about how we got put together because we are SO similar, but #blessed.
Spiritual: The first night with Hermana Dos Santos, we passed by the house of one of our friends (Pedro), who was preparing to be baptized. A couple of days ago, Pedro told us his brother was extremely sick, and that he would be in the hospital almost 24/7 taking care of him. Since that call, we haven't heard from him. We decided to pass by his house one more time to see how he was doing, but no one came out. While we were shouting "ALO" at his doorstep, a man walked by, and we started to talk to him. This is how the conversation went:
H. Pickett: "Where are you going?"
Random Man: "Going to buy milk so my wife and I can make platano con leche."
H. Dos Santos: "Is it good?"
Random Man: "Yes."
H. Pickett: "Can we try it with you guys?"
Random Man: "Let me buy the milk really fast, and then we can walk to the house and try it."
Since this all happened in a matter of minutes, my new companion and I didn't have anything planned, but the spirit guided us in such a natural conversation about gospel truths.
We taught the Restoration of the Church of Jesus Christ, the Plan of Salvation, and the Gospel of Jesus Christ in 15 minutes, in such a simple way, yet so powerfully with the Spirit.
When we first entered the house, the husband told us he does not like religion, and by the time we left, he was setting an alarm for Sunday morning so he could walk to Sacrament meeting with us.
This experience reminded me of the importance of sharing the gospel naturally and simply. We can sometimes overcomplicate sharing the gospel, teaching lessons, giving talks in church, or sharing our testimony. But the more we focus on the simplicity of the message, the more the Spirit touches the souls of those who listen.
I just love that in a matter of 10 minutes, we were drinking DELICIOUS platano con leche while sharing the gospel of Christ with the children of God. What a life I am living here in Chile.
