Ñuñoa Has My Heart
YOU GUYS! I want to live in Ñuñoa forever.
This week, we had the MIRACLE BAPTISM of ANDRES!! Another STORYTIME...
4 weeks ago, when I arrived in this new area, Ñuñoa, Andres (he’s a police officer) was one of the first people I met at church, and I thought that he was a member until I asked when he got baptized, and he said, "todavía no" (not yet).
I was shocked!! This king literally comes to church with his suit and tie, participates in the classes, and always makes sure to greet other members on Sunday (not to mention that he lives right next to the church).
I replied by saying, "pero pronto que sí (Chilean jeje)!! se va a bautizar, le prometo!!" (but soon yes!! you will be baptized, I promise) And he looked a little like "what the, who is this girl?!" However, something clicked because when I asked if we could go over to his house that following Tuesday, he said "Sí!"
At this time, I was in a trio and we all decided to fast for a miracle that Andres would accept a date to be baptized. He had been coming to church since February; however, he never wanted to take the next step of baptism.
We entered his house that Tuesday not exactly sure what we were going to teach, but we were filled with the hope and faith that he would finally accept to be baptized.
We ended up sharing about the Restoration of the Church of Jesus Christ, and when we invited him to be baptized... he laughed!!!
We waited for him to be done laughing and asked the same exact question a second time. He laughed again but more of a "Chuta! They're for realz. HELP" and finally, after the third time of asking, he said "Tengo que orar" (I need to pray).
We knelt down in his living room, and he offered a prayer giving thanks for everything he could think of... but did not ask to know if he should get baptized in the Church of Jesus Christ.
We celebrated the beautiful prayer he gave and then asked him to say another prayer, but this time asking point-blank about baptism.
When he prayed the third time and this time specifically about baptism and said "amen"... the spirit flooded the room. I could feel so strongly in my heart that he received his answer, and I wanted so badly to set his baptism date while the spirit was so strong, but instead, the spirit indicated that we should invite him to pray one more time by himself and to let us know the next day how he feels about getting baptized on the 9th of September.
We called him the next day, he asked us if we could meet in person, and only 10 minutes later we were sitting in the church when he told us, "Hermanas, oré por una hora y recibí autorización de Dios para bautizarme en Su Iglesia" (I prayed for an hour and received authorization to be baptized in His church).
WOAHHHH MIRACLES!!!! I THINK WE ALL ALMOST JUMPED OUT OF OUR CHAIRS!!! Fasting, prayer, and faith works.
On Saturday when he got baptized and Sunday when he got confirmed as a member of the Church, he bore such a beautiful testimony of his conversion.
There is so much I learned from this experience but above all, the importance of faith (expecting miracles), fasting, and persistence.
