Baptism Miracles
SERGIO and KRISHNA GOT BAPTIZED THIS WEEK.
They are SUCH A MIRACLE because when I was trying to not be #bummed about leaving my other area (Ñuñoa) after being there for only one transfer, I prayed SO HARD and fasted that we could see the same miracles we were seeing in Ñuñoa in my current area.
Since then, I have been studying a lot about desire. The scriptures repeatedly remind us that "God granteth unto men according to their desire" (Alma 29:4), and he "that asketh receiveth."
I wanted to accept the invitation of the Savior when He says, "Prove me now herewith"; in other words, "test me on the promise I am making you" (Malachi 3:10) and experiment upon the word.
My desire was to find someone within the first three days in my new area that would accept the gospel and be baptized. I know from the DEEPEST MOST PROFOUND part of my heart that "each of God's children deserves the opportunity to hear and accept the healing, redeeming message of Jesus Christ" (Christ Is Risen; Faith in Him Will Move Mountains), and I want to be the best instrument in God's hands I can be to bring souls unto Him.
Though my companions and I both arrived not knowing anything about or anyone in the area, the first thing we did was set 3 companionship goals (one of them being finding this person in three days who would be baptized) and knelt down in prayer BEGGING for inspiration and divine guidance.
We left our house the first night talking to everyone but seeing very little success.
The next day, we left the house early and continued to talk to everyone and saw great success.
One of the people we talked to was Pedro Sepulveda. He seemed más o menos interested, but we then asked if there was anyone else he knew that would be interested in listening to a message of eternal families.
He randomly left for a couple of minutes, and during that time, we found ourselves with Sergio (17) in the street. He told us he doesn't believe in God, but wouldn't be opposed to learning more about the Book of Mormon.
Then Pedro returned with his sister, Clara, and her daughter, Krishna (8) who happened to be family with Sergio.
Long story short, only Sergio and Krishna were interested for the first little bit. As we taught them, we could literally see Sergio's light brighten as he came to understand that he is a child of God through daily prayer, and Krishna's happiness exploded due to the pure love she could feel as she read the kids' version of the Book of Mormon and participated in primary.
We also saw a change in Clara and Pedro. The more we came over, the more Clara and Pedro would show interest. First, they began to listen in from another room, and then little by little, they would make their way into the lesson to ask questions or comment on the change they had seen in Sergio and Krishna.
The day of Sergio and Krishna's baptism was filled with the spirit and SO MUCH LOVE.
After the baptismal service, a member ran to tell me that Pedro just asked him if he could be baptized next week too. WHAT?? Pedro is such a king.
I love being a missionary. I love participating in miracles. I love Sergio and Krishna SO MUCH. I love that Pedro could feel that "in the ordinances thereof (in this case, the baptism of Sergio and Krishna), the power of godliness is manifest" (D&C 84:21). I love the gospel of Jesus Christ.
Through "exercising a particle of faith, yea, even... no more than desire to believe" (Alma 32:27), my companions and I set goals based on the righteous desires of our hearts, and the Lord guided us and blessed us.
